3 tips for cleaning your home this summer holidays

home cleaning by CLCCWhether you are going on a family trip or just stay at home for the holiday, chances are, this is the time of the year when we need our homes to be clean. With entertaining, children at home, friends dropping in and all the other great things that happen in the holiday to keep us busy, your home often suffers. Keeping your home clean can become more difficult than usual.

While you can’t prevent the occasional mess and disorder, here are some tips you can follow to get things back on track and resume your normal routine for the next year.

Put in the work early

You might excuse yourself not to clean your home because you are busy for the holiday but it’s important to keep the level of tidiness inside your home at a manageable level. Simple stuff like putting away things after you use them, storing things where they should be, will help you manage your workload later.

Have your carpets professionally cleaned

You might be able to vacuum your carpet regularly but this doesn’t deep clean your carpet or remove deep seated bacteria and dirt. The kids are in the house and they might track in more dirt than normal onto your carpet, not to mention food stains! Call in the professionals and let them clean your carpet. Besides, it is recommended to deep clean your carpet once or twice a year.

Have your upholstery professionally cleaned

If there is a time of the year when your upholstery needs a thorough cleaning, it is during summer. The daily wear and tear and the burden of the holiday will allow your upholstery to look old. Make it look like new again by hiring a professional cleaner.

How to remove nail polish on your carpet

nail-polish-spillOh, no, you were being so careful not to mark your nails and the unthinkable has happen –  you have spilled the whole bottle on your carpet.

When you accidentally spilled your nail polish over your beloved carpet, what should you do?

Nail polish on your carpet? Don’t panic!

It makes your heart sink seeing an intensely coloured nail polish spills on your carpet. Nail polish is one of the most difficult to stain to remove from your carpet fibre but don’t panic. All hope is not lost.

The best thing to do is call a professional carpet cleaner as soon as possible.

Sometimes you do need to clean it up (it’s late at night).

It will take some time so start gathering your cleaning tools and get yourself sorted.

What you will need:

  • Paper towels
  • Nail polish remover
  • Hairspray
  • Water
  • Dish soap

Of course, a whole lot of patience and determination too.

Here are the steps to remove nail polish on your carpet.

Step 1: Blot the spill

The stain is just sitting on top? Lucky you. Do not waste  time,  start blotting as much spill as possible using paper towels. Be careful to blot only and not spread the spill. Continue blotting until no further colour transfers to the paper towel.

Step 2: Nail polish remover

Before using the nail polish remover, try it out first on a hidden spot (behind a curtain). There is a small chance that a nail polish remover could remove the colour from your carpet, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Once confirmed that a nail polish remover doesn’t remove carpet colour, pour it into a new paper towel and blot the spill. Continue the process. This can take a while, depending on the size of the stain, so be patient and work a small area at a time.

Step 3: Hairspray

Spray it directly to the stain. Wet a paper towel with water to avoid having the hairspray dry. Gently dab the hairspray with the wet paper towel. If necessary, add more hairspray. This might also take a while.

Step 4: Soap and water

To finish off, add drops of dish soap to the water. Dip a clean paper towel and gently blot the stain. This should remove any remaining stain left on your carpet. Make sure to dry your carpet first before using.

If the nail polish spill has dried before you get the chance to have it clean, try scraping off the nail polish by brushing it with a toothbrush and call a professional cleaner in.

How to remove nail polish on your carpet

Only try to remove the spill yourself if it is late at night or some other time when you are unable to reach a professional cleaner. Contacting a professional carpet cleaner as soon as possible is really the best way to give your carpet the best chance of having the stain removed. If you try to remove the stain yourself and are unsuccessful, you have decreased the chance of a professional cleaning being able to remove it for you.

  • Do they offer deodorizers for home with pets?
  • How long does the process take and to dry?
  • Will they move your furniture for you or do you have to do that?
  • Is this a firm price or estimate?
